Welcome to SmartMamma.com |
My name is Vivian E. Glyck and I'm the founder of SmartMamma.com. When my son, Zakary, was first born, I often felt as though I had started off on a journey without a map - I knew I had some major challenges in front of me, but I didn't know how to solve them alone. If you've ever asked yourself questions like: How do I get my baby onto a schedule so that he sleeps (and so I can sleep, too); and How, what and when do I feed my baby, particularly as he begins eating solids and moves into toddlerhood, then we have a lot in common!
Like many first time parents, I read mountains of books, magazines, and scoured the internet for answers to the specific questions that were plaguing me. Through my own self-education as the parent of a young child, I found I needed more than just books. I needed someone to actually talk me through my questions and concerns.
SmartMamma.com is the result of that inquiry. It's a series of in-depth interviews with some of the most knowledgeable experts available. Sure there was a lot of good information available, but it was nothing compared to the detailed, out-of-the-box info I received from infant sleep neuroscientist, Polly Moore, PhD and nutrition expert and pediatrician, Christine Wood, MD.
I now passionately believe in the power of nutrition to keep our kids healthy. There's no disputing that our society's commitment to processed, fast food is a prescription for lousy health, temperament, and attention span in children. It's also a harbinger of critical health issues down the road, including heart disease, obesity, diabetes and depression.
I also now know how essential adequate sleep is for healthy brain development in the first few years of life. In fact, if you did nothing more than made sure your child got enough sleep and ate the right foods (and eliminated the lousy ones), you've done more to ensure your child's intelligence than half of those "brain stimulating" toys the media dangles in front of you.
I personally sought out the SmartMamma.com experts and got answers that I couldn't find anywhere else. Dr. Moore's 90-Minute Sleep Miracle helped get my son onto a schedule that had him sleeping 12-hours a night and taking two predictable naps in no time. And I believe that Dr. Wood's suggestions regarding the best nutrition and supplements for an infant and toddler has a lot to do with the fact that my son has never been on antibiotics and tends to be pretty even-tempered with very few, if any, tantrums and meltdowns (hint: Dr. Wood's prescription for healthy brain growth and enhanced immune system did not include Goldfish and juice boxes).
When my friends learned about my sleeping, healthy baby, they began calling me for more information. I told them what I could, but it wasn't like having access to these professionals themselves. That's when I decided to create SmartMamma.com.
I love these experts because they are down-to-earth professionals who are mothers themselves. They are deeply committed to the health and well being of children and passionately pursue their work.
I hope that you find the information contained in these products as useful as I have. I surveyed hundreds of moms before we even began creating the videos and focused the material on what was of most interest to them (and hopefully you, too).
Each SmartMamma product contains a DVD video interview with the SmartMamma expert, a CD-audio of the same interview, and a transcript and workbook so that you can learn any way that you can in your busy life. And because it is a personal commitment of mine to do whatever I can to ensure that all children have the opportunities my child does, I've created a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, The Just Like My Child Foundation (www.justlikemychild.com). I encourage you to learn more. A portion of all proceeds from SmartMamma.com will be donated to The Just Like My Child Foundation -- an organization that is focused on raising millions of children out of poverty. I urge you to find out more about the work we are doing.
We at SmartMamma want your feedback. We want to know what's important to you. Feel free to send us an email directly with your comments and suggestions. Watch for the SmartMamma Discipline, Potty Training, and Etiquette products coming soon.
From the bottom of my heart, I wish you a happy and joyful parenting experience.
Vivian Glyck
